So, I was reading this post at Dan's blog in which he is expressing his irritation with Valentine's Day, and it got me to thinking...
Mike and I do little things for V-day: little heart-shaped box of chocolates (like...the one you get for two bucks at checkout) or a stuffed animal (the kid in me loves teddy bears) and a card. Mikey has written me these beautiful letters and poems every now and then since we were in high school, and they turn me to mush.
I never understood the demand for a huge gesture when the little ones feel so full of love and understanding. I always thought it was about knowing the person you were with.
This Valentine's Day, we've set aside time to rp one of our couples in CoH. I'm sure that sounds lame to a lot of people, but we enjoy doing it. It's about spending time together and making each other smile. It's also something we do often, because getting those times...those moments with each other...that's what's important.
If Mike was gone tomorrow, the one thing I'd want would be more time, not presents or grand gestures or...well...you get the point.
So, ladies, if you think your value is about materialistic demonstrations of affection, ask yourself if you're really in love with this person or if you're just in it for what you can get out of him. And guys, half the time you think we women are looking for jewelry, we're actually looking for a little indication that you really know us and want to be with us. It's not about grand gestures or even a silly holiday. Maybe if you didn't wait for a day on the calendar to show someone they're loved and wanted, you wouldn't have to go into hoc trying to prove it.
Or...I could just be totally off.
