Fall Premieres (from the crazy chick who loves them)

It's a good thing I'm not a tv critic. I can't seem to pan anything. Since I'm sentenced to a lotta time on my arse this fall, however, I think I'm gonna end up talking about tv shows here from time to time. And this is where I'll start!

Let me preface this with the weirdo agreement that Mike and I made when we started pouring over TV Guide's Fall Preview Guide. We decided that we were going to watch as many show premieres as possible (even some of the ones that didn't look like something we'd get hooked on) and give each show a chance to impress us.

Now, being as I'm likely to have a lot of time on my hands after surgery, I'm thinking I'd like to at least post some thoughts about each show whenever I'm able to. After all, what fun is a blog if you can't put your own opinion out there to share with the rest of the blogosphere? :P

So, I'm gonna back up to start with a few shows that trickled in earlier this month, and then, move forward from there. Please keep in mind that I'm taping some shows, so comments on some shows will come later than others. Also, these will be written as time allows, and time is somewhat more limited before surgery than the house arrest I'll be dealing with after. I R Slow. Deal with meh!

How about a couple of game shows to start?

We watched Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? when it first aired, and even though it's got a cute set-up and the kids impress with personality, I was basically disappointed. I get that the Millionaire format works for game shows. I'm just not hooked by it. I'm also not much of a game show person in general.

But, I could be with Don't Forget the Lyrics! Not sure I could watch it on a weekly basis, but if nothing else is on, and I've got nothing else to do, this show is teh cute. It appeals to the music lover in me. Put me on that show. I got some mad kareoke skills! :P

By the way, what's with the shows that have sentences as titles, Fox? Aren't any of you clever enough to come up with actual show titles that don't have to be spelled out?

Skipped Cops and America's Most Wanted. Bleh. I refuse to watch America's Biggest Loser. I don't believe that show does anything but exploit people who already have self-esteem problems and health issues. Fat March gets passed up too. To me, those shows are just a vehicle to make it okay to laugh at fat people.

I was surprised by Nashville. I didn't expect to like it. I'm not sure I do. I'm drawn in, however, by a couple of the people on it, and I'll be watching it until I lose interest, I guess. Or something better pops up in the time slot elsewhere. I'm morbidly fascinated in watching Rachel be like so many women I've met. Ten years ago, I'd have said "No one's like that", but now that I've had my share of experiences with women who are vicious and irrational, my reaction is more "Why are you so stupid?" You just want to grab her by the shoulders and tell her that she's going about things all wrong. I like Mika and hate what Clint's doing to her, but that Rachel wasn't stand-up in the beginning to warn Mika (instead deciding to declare her an enemy for not knowing what's going on due to being new in town) is worse. Okay, now I feel like a total girl. I hate shows that make me feel gossipy. And that's what this one does. *shudder*

I don't do late night tv, so I won't be talking about Mad TV or any of the others for that reason.

I watched the premiere of this season's Prison Break, but honestly, I don't see what the hype is about. I have no interest. Can't figure out what makes it a "breakaway hit" as Fox claims.

K-Ville, on the other hand, has me intrigued. I usually run hot or cold on cop shows, and this one struck hot. I love the lead characters, and the backdrop of a Katrina-ravaged New Orleans is an interesting choice. Unfortunately, I missed the second ep last night due to other premieres, but it's decidedly worth looking for at Fox On Demand when I get the chance later.

Okay, kiddies, that's all I've got time for at the moment. I was hoping to get to NBC's line-up from last night, but I've gotta jet soon for a doctor's appointment. I'll pick this up later. See ya!
