I'd been looking forward to last night for a long, long time. I'm glad to say it didn't disappoint! (Somewhat spoiler-ish, so avoid if you haven't watched the shows yet and plan to.)
Okay, the commercials for Chuck seemed kinda hokey, but Mike really wanted to see it, and I thought I'd like to give it a shot. I gotta tell you, if you missed it, check out the encore presentation this weekend. It's fast paced and funny. It's just...got this fun little feel to it in spite of the shaky premise, and the cast is great. I have to admit, though, Adam Baldwin showed up on screen, and I got all giddy, shouting "It's Jayne!" at poor Mikey. Yeah. Jayne can sell me on a show anytime.
Then, there was the BIG ONE. Heroes is back with a bang! We knew Peter couldn't be dead, but at first, it really seems like he might be. Claire's stuck in snooze-ville with a flyboy (literally) showing interest in her, and Daddy's teamed with Mohinder to infiltrate The Company. Good stuff. They killed Sulu though, and what's interesting is how he didn't even really seem to put up any kind of fight against his attacker. Very strong, awesome start. We're looking forward to seeing how Hiro handles finding out his hero isn't heroic in the past. Just...can't wait for the next one! This show is addictive.
And then came Journeyman. What to say about this show? This is too smart, too intricate, for television. It's gonna get dropped. I knew it the minute Mike and I were talking after, and I had to clarify that the Neil guy was on Dan's internet page after he'd saved him from suicide, but before he'd gone back and talked to the woman who was pregnant. The thing is that you have to really follow it from beginning to end to really get it. It's masterfully written, and I love how he can't seem to control it at all. I love the weaving of his dead wife/fiance?/notsureyet? into the time jumps and the real pull she has on Dan. And the end where he digs up the tool box with the ring and newspaper in it? Just beautiful. Perfect. Can't wait to see where they take this if they manage to keep from getting axed.
Last night was good tv. I taped CBS's shows, but haven't seen them yet, so I'll post about them when I can, as well as see whether I can dig up online eps of the rest of what was premiering last night. All in all though, if I've gotta be stuck on my arse for this foot thing, at least it's with fresh eps of great shows!
