Everyone's weighing in on the writers' strike, so here's my two bits. Unions are good. Unions are the reason corporations aren't free to tromp all over their workers, and I honestly believe they've done more for the American employee than government-imposed safety regulations and minimum wage ever did. I have a lot of respect for any group of employees that feels so strongly about their convictions that they're willing to take to the picket lines to get their point across. So, good luck to them.
I had a bigger speech in my head two days ago when I thought about dedicating a whole post to this, but honestly, that's all it boiled down to. As for my support? Well, darlins, I don't even own a credit card, so I don't clickie on advertising anywhere. I can't afford dvds of seasons of shows I'd like to own. And as of today, I will be watching significantly less tv in general, but not because of the writers...
I get the -20 Dexterity Purple Cast of Doom off today!
That's right, damnit! Today, I trade in the big pain in the butt (dear lord how it itches) cast for a walking cast this afternoon! I'm so happy, I could dance but for the....um...non-dancing...nature of...this...yeah.
Before surgery, I actually anticipated a LOT more CoX time than it turned out that I got, thanks to spending about half of the last 6 weeks dealing with post-surgical pain, a nasty infection complete with ER visit and insufferable fever, and a slight case of food poisoning. However, I managed to squeeze in a bit of time in the last week, for which I'm very happy.
Especially hours of couply goodness with Mikey, playing Ion-Stream (Mike's Elec/Fire blaster) and Wintry Dross (my Ice/Rad controller) who jumped a couple of levels between Sunday's and last night's playtime. I have to say...best duo EVAH!!! Back when he suggested we do an exclusive duo, I was excited to comply, though a bit uncertain of running my first 'troller. But these two kick butt! Once I realized I had to stop playing like a defender and started really getting into the synergy between the two toons, we really started to have a great time to the point of losing track of time and staying up way too late last night to kick Heracles arse. Even icly, they're my favorite couple. Their story is so sweet, and I like my clueless little test tube baby whenever we're interacting with others. Just...too fun! :)
D&D's a little slower going than it was when we started out due to work schedules, but it's been an absolute pleasure to run this new campaign. The story's unveiling itself in my head so fast, it's begun to take real effort not to let it unfold too quickly or before I've really laid enough groundwork. The best part is the laughter in the wake of the interaction between the characters. Even on days we're not playing, someone will make reference to a particular comment or interaction, and we're all laughing again, and Mike and Steve are both referencing the campaign between sessions. Both of those things, my friends, tells me how well the DM is doing. Very satisfying. :)
Elsewhere in the family, Joe and Kimmy are still looking for an apartment, and their time at Mom and Dad's is moving into the danger zone (the community only allows visitors for so long and definitely doesn't allow children), so time's a-crunching there. Besides, everyone in that house definitely needs much more space than they've got right now. So, keep them in your thoughts and prayers, please!
Steve's got a new truck just in time for me to possibly get driving privileges back this afternoon! SQUEEEEEE!
I've been kinda pushing my mom to switch from her doctor (my old one - the nasty jerk) to my new one who is so much better. I suppose a positive step in that direction is my dad's switch, and he went to see him on Tuesday. After some x-rays (prompted, I'm assuming, from the doc's thorough history-gathering), he found out that there was an issue with a fracture that was never resolved when he was in a motorcycle accident 15 years ago. He'd had a really bad head injury (brain surgery was required at the time), which seems to have taken the focus away from the fracture somehow, and it turns out that his hip has been displaced all this time. I'm so grateful for doctors who actually listen and help. They seem to be a dying breed if my last ER visit is any indication.
Anywho, there are all my bits. Life here is always moving, and hopefully, after today, I'll get to dig in and be involved at least a little more. Here's hoping for excellent x-rays and the beginning of physical therapy!!! :)
