Ignorance is Bliss!

Yesterday, I did something really stupid.

I went to the AoC boards while the hidden forums were unlocked.

Now, granted, what I found wasn't what I'd expected. In fact, it wasn't even what I was looking for, but I shouldn't have been looking at all. Things said there were said with the understanding that they were being spoken in confidence. I've long believed that when you eavesdrop in any sense, you deserve what you get.

Boy, howdy, did I get me an earful.

And, it hurt.

I didn't need to know these things were said. In fact, I didn't care until I found them yesterday.

Now...there are certainly things I've said in confidence that I wouldn't want others to know. Mostly, because it's none of their business. Occassionally, because it would just create trouble and bad feelings where they don't need to be.

In fact, isn't this where yesterday's problem started? Someone took something said in private and gave it to someone else?

In nearly two years in this game, I've been told something unflatterring/negative about a good 75% of the people I've talked to/met/etc. Usually, I try to dismiss what's said as the opinion of the speaker. If the subject is a friend, I might try to say something reasonable or go to the friend to ask if it's true. If the subject isn't a friend? Well, why waste my time?

I'm asking again as I have in the past, however, that you come to me before assuming what you've heard/read is true. Because really...the truth is stranger than fiction, though - as is usually the case - not nearly as entertaining.

I, for one, am very sorry I read anything in those forums yesterday. The leaders of the AoC have my sincerest apologies. They weren't my business. I can't un-learn what I read, and I will act with the respect I have asked for in the past - I'll be going to those people directly.

As for others who read them, I don't blame you for giving in to curiousity or getting angry at what you read. But let me ask you this...

Before yesterday, were these people even on your radar anymore? I think it's obvious that we moved on while they...didn't.

Think about that.
