So, in the week leading up to Caedyn's birthday, we pretty much began our campaign. We told him that we probably wouldn't be able to afford to do anything for his birthday, that he would probably have to wait an extra two weeks for Mike's next paycheck, that I couldn't even find a cake to fit my ever-tightening grocery budget...
Mind you, he'd already managed to get himself grounded for the bulk of the month by breaking the very important rule of "Stay next to the building when you go outside to play with your friends", so he already had it in his mind that his birthday was likely to be miserable.
Then, on the day in question, we told him that we felt bad that he wasn't getting anything from us for his birthday. We told him we'd at least take him to Grandma's so she could give him whatever she had for his birthday present.
And when he walked in, he found family, presents, -and- a cake.

Yeah. Parents suck. And we got him so good!

His EXACT words to describe hiw coming birthday. "My birthday is going to suck." He said this ..oohh....5, maybe 15 times a day for 3 or 4 days leading to the day..
That picture of him holding up that LEGO thing is just priceless. I bet that is what makes all the hard times being a parent worth it.
