Is it really that much to ask for someone to express themselves originally in an email these days? Forwarding a dozen or so chain letters - no matter how sweet the sentiment expressed within - is NOT communicating or keeping in touch.
I have a couple of family members who....well, that's just all they do. I have no idea what's going on in their lives, but I know that if I don't send this to ten people within 5 minutes of opening it, my head's gonna explode and the underwear gnomes are gonna take my panties!

Thank you.
I have several relatives, and one friend who send me nothing but chain mail.
All I ask of them is for a brief note at the head of the mail. "Hey! Found this. I laughed. Love/Miss you, (Name)"
I've found a great way to dissuade people from sending me chain mail. I return the mail with a copy of the Texas Chain Letter Massacre.
Dear Friend,
Please make five copies of this letter and send a copy to each of your friends, and then kill yourself. Please don't break the chain!
Why, yes, I am a jerk. Thank you for noticing.
Yeah. Got like a dozen of the damn things from a family member only to find out from my mom on the phone that they had some pretty stellar news they could've shared.
i will intentionally end friendships over this abuse of the email system.
Well, ya can't end family really, but I did send an email trying to explain my viewpoint on the matter in as polite a way as possible.
