Caedyn and I are managing to stick to our summer reading program in spite of the setbacks we had the first couple of weeks, and I actually managed to get to the library yesterday to pick up our next book. The way we've set this up is this: we found a couple of sites online with grade-specific reading lists, and combed through them to pick out titles that appealled to him. We then sorted our final list by date with a goal of one book a week, choosing a preferred title and two alternates. That way, if we couldn't find the first one (or could only find one copy on the shelf), there'd be a couple of fallback titles to look for. We'd like to read the same book every week so we can really discuss what's going on together, but we'll settle for two separates if we've got to (in which case, we can tell each other what's happening in our respective books as we've done the first two weeks).
It's been fun so far, and we're really getting into it. This week, we finally get to read a book together. I found two copies of "Killing Mr. Griffin" by Lois Duncan, which is not only one of Caedyn's first choices, but he was absolutely excited that we found it. :)
Steve's settled into his new job, and things are getting better on that front. We dug ourselves quite a hole the last few months as prices rose and incoming money fell, but another month, and we should be able to get by until Mike finds a better shop to work at.
My brother is pneumonia free, but he's been diagnosed with full-fledged asthma. This honestly comes as no real shock. He's had asthma attacks at different times in his life (but was told he didn't actually -have- asthma). Now that he's gotten the appropriate meds, he's feeling much better, and the kids have gotten over their respective colds and viruses. For about two weeks there, it seemed like they were repeatedly in hospital ERs, and I feel for my sis-in-law who was trying so hard to juggle it all (and Mom who did most of the driving).
I think that's about it for now. I'm praying for a quiet remainder of the week! :)
