Things that suck (Random bitching session)

Buyer's remorse after a manic shopping outing.

Blister pill packaging that makes you break the pills when you try to get them out of said packaging.

Switching back to the 4 row pill tray after using the two row for months.

Inviting rejection from a father you already gave up on, knowing it will still hurt just as much as when you actually cared that he constantly rejected/disapproved of you.

Saying goodbye to the good parts about being off your psych meds and subsequently welcoming the forthcoming side effects.

Rattling around in my didn't-sleep-last-night head...

Every time I hear someone say "I don't listen to so-and-so, because (insert political differences or moral behavior here)" about a musical artist, I want to ask the same questions.

1. Does knowing that Van Gogh was a nutter who cut off his ear and sent it to a woman make his paintings lesser works of art?

2. Did you know that Ernest Hemingway married 4 times? Or that Dorothy Parker was an alcoholic? Do those facts diminish their respective bodies of work, or are they still great authors?

3. If it weren't for the gigantic magnifying glass of the media on celebrities in general, you might not know that they were really screwed up in an area(s) of their personal life or didn't agree with your political views lockstep. However, if you heard their music and liked it, would that really make you a bad person somehow?

My experience is that when we dismiss someone for foibles that are often either the source of artistic talent or the result of it, we miss out; and when we close our mind to someone with a different opinion than our own, we become small-minded and intolerant.

I really hope this ends with prison time

First cyber-bullying trial hears how Megan Meier, 13, killed herself after online taunts - Times Online

When a parent acts so heinously and irresponsibly, seeking to cause harm to ANY child, I would hope to see any jury set an example by putting such an evil person behind bars. I have no sympathy for a person like Lori Drew, and her lack of remorse just makes her all the more despicable. We're supposed to set an example to our children, not act like them.

Enough already!

Enough with the media blitz. Bad enough to have to deal with the copious presidential ads, the barrage of ads from the local runners is so nasty and negative, I'm in danger of throwing something heavy at the tv screen.

Honestly, even after spending friggin hours looking up every single race and amendment I'll be voting on and reading until my eyes bleed, I'm ready to vote against the next negative ad campaign I see. This one's a criminal. This one's an evil businessman. This one's a cross-dressing sociopath. This one wears a cheerleader costume when the moon is full and sings "I'm a Little Teacup".

Uggh.

I need to vent a little here

There's something I need to say to the person who set all of this in motion (though I'm afraid I can't give very many details as to the how because of an ongoing investigation), and as much as I've tried to keep things positive here, this blog is on occassion a venting space for me, so please understand that I need to write this...

To the person who made that call:

I wish you could see firsthand the pain you've caused. I wish you could see the tears that are being shed. I wish you could see this little girl struggle for breath before she was meant to.

I'm not a vengeful person, but I hope that we're able to bring charges up against you. Failing that, I hope my brother sues you and makes you pay whatever money is awarded to the NICU at the hospital that is fighting to save my niece's life.

And finally, I don't suppose anyone really understands how simply telling a few lies can cause such devastation until it happens, but that is what has transpired here. It's gonna be tough living with yourself regardless, so I hope you find God, because you obviously need Him desparately in your life.

Need to blow off a little steam here...

If anyone winks at me in the next 24 hours, I may very well poke their dang eye out.

We know where you live. Repeating it constantly just confirms that you know it too. Good for you! You've memorized what we teach our kids from the time they're small children - their address.

Avoid another question. Accuse someone else of pointing to the past, and then do it yourself in your very next statement. Twice.

You're not funny. You're not entertaining. You're a phony and a fake. You're not like me. You're really not.

Wow.

I guess you really do get what you pay for

My free copy of "Obsession" arrived in the mail today. Lucky me.

So, I looked over the very clever packaging job they've done, lifted a suspicious eyebrow, and googled it. I googled the hell out of it. And everything I've found so far makes me want to say just one thing...

"SHAME THE HELL OUT OF YOU"

Let me tell you something about hate since you've got so much to tell me.

Hate is something that propagates itself. It doesn't need your help. You are, in no way, a benefactor to the American people or the Jewish nation by sending this, unsolicited, to ANYONE. And if you think you're somehow going to escape the obvious by claiming non-partisanship, you're even dumber than advertised, because all it took was a list of the states in which you decided to distribute this film to see that you have a very poorly hidden agenda.

Anyone who wasn't suspicious of the Republican Party's intentions to whip this nation's voters into the terrified, angry frenzy that they were post 9/11 after their "tribute" during the RNC will most assuredly have to reconsider all that benefit of the doubt they were giving.

Today, I'm ashamed of being an American.

Today, I actually compared fellow Americans to Nazi propagandists.

And I'm done being silent about it.

I agree with this article from The Huffington Post where it points out: "At a time when more and more hard-working Americans are losing their homes than at any time since the Depression, when American citizens cannot afford health care, when wages are not keeping pace with the cost-of-living, when jobs that built the great middle class have been shipped overseas, and when speculators raise the price of gas while reaping record profits -- the Republican Party (or those who now control the Republican Party) are doing everything they can to distract voters from the issues that matter."

Disgusted

I generally try to keep things posted to this blog on the lighter or more positive side for the most part, but on occassion, something comes to my attention that shakes my faith in humanity to its very core. This is such a situation.

In short, a woman spent two years pretending to have a life-threatening illness simply to gain attention for herself and, possibly, to have a relationship with someone who really was sick.

I'm astounded by the extent to which she was willing to go - even so far as to raise money for herself.

My heart goes out to the CF community as it tries to recover from this incredible blow to their sense of unity and their trust in each other. As Nate (who apparently has deleted all posts concerning the Friends of Pepe blog and the situation that has come from it) pointed out recently for himself and Tricia, none of these people should have their time, energy, or focus diverted from their own circumstances (many have CF or family with CF) to deal with this. It's fraud. It's unconscionable. It's...well, I can only pray for everyone involved, as well as pray for those who did this to get the help they so obviously need.

Attention Drivers of SUVs and mini vans

The drivers of four door sedans of the world would like to inform you that you have a blind spot. In order to safely change lanes, we reccomend that you actually physically look to your left rather than simply rely on your rear view mirror to see if you have room to move over. We're not behind you, but beside you, and we're not six feet tall. While we understand this might mean you would have to pause in your cell phone conversation, it is not our fault that you didn't see us when you didn't even look.

Using a signal wouldn't kill you either.

Oh...and while I'm on my little safe driving rant, I'd like a word with the maniac in the yellow Hummer on Pine Island Road yesterday.

I don't care what the commercials tell you, you're not king of the road. Your horn is not there to use to aid in bullying people for not moving out of your way faster.

As I realize that you will likely not learn either of these lessons until you've killed someone, kindly move to a state where I don't have friends and family on the roads.

Using a signal as you weave from lane to lane wouldn't kill you either.

I find it kinda funny, I find it kinda sad...

Often, the very people crying out "social injustice!", "civil rights!", and "freedom of speech!" are the same ones who want to tell you exactly how you should act and speak so that you don't offend anyone. They demand tolerance, but don't give any.

And when you don't do things their way, they make a big noise so that everyone else will know just how much a victim they are of your wicked, wicked ways.

Wow

Letters from Kamp Krusty: I Hate Pirates, Too!

When I first saw this video a few weeks ago, it was linked from Revolution's blog, and I'd agreed with him that it came across as terribly whiny and self-serving.

He pointed out Brant's blog entry (linked above) on Friday, and...wow. Right on. Don't miss the link to the page where they suggest giving jewelry, cars, homes, etc. That's mint right there. Then, scroll down for the comments on Brant's page.

Gotta love the news

We've got a terrible problem with fires in the Everglades right now, and you can really smell the smoke in the air here. We're under a "dense smoke advisory", and anyone with respiratory issues or allergy issues is being encouraged to remain indoors.

And so, brilliant reporters went out to poll local residents to get a good feel for the way the community is handling it!

The rocket scientist they put on camera said it smells great! Like a campfire!

I humbly disagree.

Saying Goodbye Sucks

Last night, Jen came on to say that she's cancelling her account. Maybe forever, maybe indefinitely, maybe just until she gets the itch to play again.

It's a conversation I hate having. And yes, she's on a couple of my IM clients, so I'll try to stay in touch. And yes, her LJ is on my Google Reader, so I'll read her whenever she posts. And yes, she hasn't been in game much anyway due to life away from the internet.

But still...I hate it every time. I hate saying goodbye. I suck at it. I either get way calm and fail to really tell that friend how important they are, or I get way emotional and fail to sound sane. I think I did both last night.

See...it's confusing. Yes, she's leaving, but the reasons are good ones. There are positive things happening in her life right now, and I know that it's a very good thing that she takes the time to take care of those things. But, she's one of the first people I met when I joined the AoC, and of the friendships that lasted beyond that coalition, well... Jen is honest and frank, and she earned my respect the moment she came to me about rumors that killed my friendships with others. She's got an offbeat sense of humor and a unique outlook on stuff that I really like.

And she's the latest in a string of goodbyes and disappearances that I've come to have a really hard time with overall.

You see...because I know we said we'd stay in touch, but the truth is, so few people do. I miss so many of those people, too. It's a lesson I never seemed to learn - saying goodbye. I have a list of people as long as my arm that I still miss and would just love to talk to or run a mission with or get on the phone with, and it's very hard to make new friends (though we have!) knowing that eventually they'll leave or we'll leave or things will just fall apart all over again.

I have learned one thing about saying goodbye: It's not as much an ending as it feels like - for me or the other person - but it's a stepping stone or a page turned or any of a number of those silly cliches that actually turn out to have some kind of truth to them, however badly simplified they are.

So, I just wanted to say again here... Good luck, Jen. Congratulations on the new house and that feeling of moving forward. I wish very good things for you and hope you do get the bug to come back to the game and hang out with us. Let us know when you guys get settled. I've always got at least one IM client on. :)

Absolutely retarded

My insurance company and I are going to have to have a serious parting of the ways once the ankle matter is done...

After nearly two months, I FINALLY got my referral for the physical therapy I can only afford one visit of (because PT is considered specialist treatment which has a stupid high co-pay that they'd like me to pay for each of the 3 visits a week for 6 weeks).

Why go to only one visit? Well, according to the surgeon's office (who referred me in the first place), when you go to your first visit, instructions for a home program is written for you. They'd like me to work the home program for 6 weeks before my next appointment - which happens to be 2 days BEFORE my PT appointment.

With my luck, my referral for the surgeon will have expired before my rescheduled appointment with his office, and I'll be waiting on yet another one from my insurance company, which I'd like to see totally collapse inward on itself in a black hole that opened up in the brain of the person who wrote this stupid policy in the first place.

*deep cleansing sigh*

Okay, I feel better now.

Holy....

I'm not sure what's worse. The fact that women are actually stupid enough to buy these and do long term, painful harm to themselves...or how ugly they are. :/

Champions Online

It's not like I didn't know this was coming, but I think I'm blindsided by the fact that Cryptic took the longest term chief complaints of the CoX community and addressed them in ANOTHER game.

This is Champions Online Champions Online

Then again, Jack Emmert was such a jerk while he was holding the reins at CoX, we're betting he lies to/manipulates/screws the players of Champions Online too. :P
