Do NOT miss this!!!
Pre-order the Dr. Horrible dvd, complete with "Commentary! The musical!"
It's a great Christmas present! It's a great just for you present! It's just plain great!
(And thank you, Steve, for mine!!!)
Joss's comment from Whedonesque:
Well, my turkey (or, in some cases, tofurkey) stuffed friends, we literally just put the finishing touches on the disc. Is it worth fifteen hard-earned dollars? Absolutely. In fact, I can say without reservation that the Dr. Horrible DVD is worth $15.23 EASILY. More, if your dollars weren't the hard-earned kind, just the kind you have lying around in your mom's purse. God knows WE'VE worked hard to earn 'em. "Commentary! The Musical" is the most painstaking and exhausting piece of whimsey I have ever mistaken for a good idea. It has nearly twice as much music as Dr. Horrible itself -- since you can't really talk that much during a commentary musical or it sounds like a regular commentary. (Which we also have, with the stars and writers, plus making-of's, ELE applications, and a few items left lying around by a notorious Bunny...) I can say without hesitation that I hesitate to say it's great. And by great I mean ridiculous. It's sophmoric, solopsistic, silly and the most fun I've had being exhausted since the fabled Mushortio itself. And everyone sings beautifullly. Which enrages me. I a little bit hate my friends now.
The listed street date is, by the way, a little later than we'd expected -- I'm hoping Amazon is just playing it safe and we can beat that date. More on that as we learn it. Expect a twittering sensation.
Finally, I just want to say "thank you" to everybody who has supported this venture. We've been able to pay our crew and all our bills, which means a lot. What means more is proving that completely independent ventures can muscle their way through the blizzard of big-budget behemoths. (A blizzard of behemoths? Back to writing school, alliteration-junkie!) All that rhetoric about the future of entertainment that flew about during the Strike is still entirely true. We need to find our own way of producing entertainment. A lot of people are watching Dr. Horrible to see if it's any kind of model -- way more people than I expected -- and it means everything to me to help pave the way for artists to start working and making a living from the ground up. There are a couple of real pioneers in this that I know personally: Felicia Day, I'm thrilled to say, and choreographer Chris Elam are both looking far ahead in terms of monetization and interactivity. Me, I'm more like Jimmy Stewart in "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance", but at least I'm out there. Thanks, he finally summed up, to you.
My story has become tiresome! But wait till you hear the songs.
Did we cover "silly"...?

I guess you really do get what you pay for
My free copy of "Obsession" arrived in the mail today. Lucky me.
So, I looked over the very clever packaging job they've done, lifted a suspicious eyebrow, and googled it. I googled the hell out of it. And everything I've found so far makes me want to say just one thing...
"SHAME THE HELL OUT OF YOU"
Let me tell you something about hate since you've got so much to tell me.
Hate is something that propagates itself. It doesn't need your help. You are, in no way, a benefactor to the American people or the Jewish nation by sending this, unsolicited, to ANYONE. And if you think you're somehow going to escape the obvious by claiming non-partisanship, you're even dumber than advertised, because all it took was a list of the states in which you decided to distribute this film to see that you have a very poorly hidden agenda.
Anyone who wasn't suspicious of the Republican Party's intentions to whip this nation's voters into the terrified, angry frenzy that they were post 9/11 after their "tribute" during the RNC will most assuredly have to reconsider all that benefit of the doubt they were giving.
Today, I'm ashamed of being an American.
Today, I actually compared fellow Americans to Nazi propagandists.
And I'm done being silent about it.
I agree with this article from The Huffington Post where it points out: "At a time when more and more hard-working Americans are losing their homes than at any time since the Depression, when American citizens cannot afford health care, when wages are not keeping pace with the cost-of-living, when jobs that built the great middle class have been shipped overseas, and when speculators raise the price of gas while reaping record profits -- the Republican Party (or those who now control the Republican Party) are doing everything they can to distract voters from the issues that matter."
(Thanks to BD for the link to the 9/11 tribute video.)

Lakeview Terrace
Normally, I'd dismiss this movie out of hand as something I may end up seeing if one of the guys gets it into their heads to rent it one day, maybe. But the odd thing is (and I just can't find the site anymore or I'd link it), a couple months ago, I found a website put up by someone from the town we live in who was living next to a BSO officer (county police here), and some of the things in the trailer are things they were talking about having experienced (like the floodlights pointed at the bedroom windows, pulling down trees/bushes on the property line, etc.). Anyway, it struck on that memory chord, and it hits me as one of those stories that takes events that actually happen in reality and takes it a few steps farther - a common story-telling device that can actually work really well if it's done right.
Still have no interest in seeing it. Hoped there was a book it was based on, but sadly, no.

"In a world" voiceover master dies at 68
We didn't all know your name, Don, but we all recognized your voice.
We didn't all know your name, Don, but we all recognized your voice.
Thank you One Hit Wonder
I haven't thought of this song in years, and when Wondie played it, it just...fit...some things I'd been comtemplating saying about other people's opinions of late.
I want to tell you all a story 'bout a Harper Valley widowed wife
Who had a teenage daughter who attended Harper Valley Junior High
Well her daughter came home one afternoon and didn't even stop to play
She said, "Mom, I got a note here from the Harper Valley P.T.A."
The note said, "Mrs. Johnson, you're wearing your dresses way too high
It's reported you've been drinking and a-runnin' 'round with men and going wild
And we don't believe you ought to be bringing up your little girl this way"
It was signed by the secretary, Harper Valley P.T.A.
Well, it happened that the P.T.A. was gonna meet that very afternoon
They were sure surprised when Mrs. Johnson wore her mini-skirt into the room
And as she walked up to the blackboard, I still recall the words she had to say
She said, "I'd like to address this meeting of the Harper Valley P.T.A."
Well, there's Bobby Taylor sittin' there and seven times he's asked me for a date
Mrs. Taylor sure seems to use a lot of ice whenever he's away
And Mr. Baker, can you tell us why your secretary had to leave this town?
And shouldn't widow Jones be told to keep her window shades all pulled completely down?
Well, Mr. Harper couldn't be here 'cause he stayed too long at Kelly's Bar again
And if you smell Shirley Thompson's breath, you'll find she's had a little nip of gin
Then you have the nerve to tell me you think that as a mother I'm not fit
Well, this is just a little Peyton Place and you're all Harper Valley hypocrites

10 Things...
This is one of those over-rented movies around here, set to one of my favorite songs from the soundtrack. Short of actually going and renting it today, I think this tides me over til next time. :P

It's back!
If you missed the Whedony goodness of Dr. Horrible the first time around, you can now check it out, though now you'll have to suffer through commercial interruptions. Still so worth it. Enjoy!

Part Three
Dr. Horrible's conclusion is up, and if you haven't seen it, I highly reccomend you go. Remember that it will only be up until midnight Sunday!
I'll refrain from too much comment so as not to spoil the ending, but this was classic Joss down to the core. He never does what you expect, and I love the result every time. The end is definitely a "Whoa" moment. :)
