Okay, I guess a quick update is in order since I haven't been posting much or around that much and I finally remembered I had a computer this morning!
Lessee...I should premise this cautionary tale with a little background info. After a period of a couple of days' suspicion, the guys finally declared our refrigerator to be on its last leg. It was definitely not as cold as it should be, and even fiddling with it was no longer yielding results. So, Monday morning, Mike puts in a request for service or replacement with the landlord, and we wait.
And wait.
Along about Wednesday, it's still cold inside the fridge, but by no means as cold as it should be, yet we persevere onward. I'm still having the usual problems getting around, so when both the guys are working, someone generally makes a sandwich or something for me for lunch, and Wednesday was no different. After fevers and liquid diets the week before, my appetite was becoming notoriously picky, so where one bite of my turkey sandwich should've been enough to make me throw it out, it took 3. I finally just conceded to myself at the time that I wouldn't be able to eat it and cursed my finicky appetite. (Seriously, it was so bad that for a while there, it was a toss up as to whether just the smell of dinner cooking was enough to make me pass up the meal altogether.)
So, munchkin goes out with my brother and my endlessly adorable niece...

(Not so great a pic, I know, but taken with a cell phone cuz Mom had her digital camera instead of me for a change.)
...not to trick-or-treat for himself (and not even in costume), but to collect for UNICEF on behalf of a school-based program. In the meantime, I've mentioned to the guys a day or two before that I may have a new idea for a D&D campaign that won't fizzle out like the last couple of attempts. (It wasn't their fault. I would start, get frustrated, lose interest, and I had had a hard time pin-pointing the reason.)
So, they rolled up characters, and in true addict fashion, decided to go ahead and start Wednesday instead of waiting for Friday (which was when I'd announced we'd start playing again). And, it was awesome!
Long after Caedyn went to bed, we were running initial scenes, cracking each other up as the guys got a good grip on characters and their personalities, and just generally having a total blast. Finally, I've got that addict thing going again for which dice and arcing plot lines are the cure! :P
So, Mike and Steve head for bed after, and I'm sitting up in bed realizing my stomach's just...not happy. (Stomach problems really don't surprise me, actually. I've had them all my life, so I tend to just try to roll with the punches and avoid certain foods/eating practices/etc.) After a restless night, I wake up to the realization that something's really not quite right.
Remember the turkey sandwich I thought finicky eating had made inedible?
Yeah.
So, I get a mild case of food poisoning, throw up, and can't eat anything for a good 24-36 hours. Which...probably not so good since I'm still on antibiotics for last week's thing. Sheesh. You'd think I could catch a break, huh? :P
On the bright side, when Mike called our building manager about the lack of response on the fridge, she ends up calling him back here at the apartment. I tell her I'm under the weather because of food poisoning, and she has a new fridge brought over on the same day.
It's Friday before I feel like I'm "put right" (redneck term) again, but it's also D&D day, so I'm psyched and ready to roll, and we ran out the clock that night. Keep in mind that we still have yet to actually bring out the battle map which...let me tell you folks, that's pure gold as far as I'm concerned. I've got one major character to play among my little set of npc's, and I'm thrilled with her. The guys' characters are great, and it's like the very long dry spell never even existed. (Yes, I'm a geek and rp makes me giddy. Shaddup and go make fun of me on your own blog.)
So, what could top off this much happy?
I spent several hours of yesterday out of the apartment. It was actually the first time I've been out since my surgery that didn't have to do with doctors or emergency rooms. I'd been going downright stir-crazy, so, frickin' YAY!
Granted, it was mostly for grocery shopping (Wally World and Winnable Dixie), but make no mistake, my friends. I enjoyed every damn minute from getting to ride in my car, Zippy (something I miss way too much), to blaring the radio to getting to eat lunch somewhere that wasn't my bed or the dinner table.
It's the little things that make you really appreciate life, huh? :)
Top it all off with our first actual fight in D&D last night, and color me waking up on a natural high this morning!
And my birthday's in a week! And my cast comes off 4 days later!
I'm all smiles with grateful prayers on my lips, and I hope for the same for each and every one of you. Happy Sunday!
